First of all I want to look at the sun.
I feel more comfortable to again learn the handling of the telescope by daylight. Thus observing the brightest star would be the easiest start.
For that purpose I either need a dedicated solar telescope or a “normal” telescope with lots of filters. Unfortunately the different type of Lunts or Coronados are either very expensive or extraordinary expensive. A Coronado PST 0.5A would fit into the budget, but the small aperture is a bit deterring. Besides, shall I really start with Hα?
Although I am very motivated to engage in this hobby for a longer time, I still have to prove that I am really serious about it. So I think it is better to start slow and keep on extending in course of time.
Ta-dah! My new telescope is a 80mm refractor with 600mm focal length. It has a EMC solar filter with ND5 BAADER AstroSolar foil and a UV-IR cut filter. A star diagonal and two Kellner oculars with 10mm and 25mm are already in the spare parts box. As it doesn’t weigh that much, I mounted it on a Skywatcher AZ GTi on an old photo tripod.
I purchased everything at the online shop of Teleskop Service. After proving my membership in the VDS e.V. I got about 10% discount. As the “normal” price is not really different from the price at the competitors, this is a really nice step to improve customer loyalty.
So, here we are, I can see solar spots :-).
