Astro Log January 2022

Since my last post in October, lots of things have happened.

Though my name doesn’t appear in SONNE yet (you can read the latest article here, at least my data are counted for the provisional sunspot numbers, starting in November 2021.

When trying to control my telescope with OSS, I stumbled upon INDI and wrote about my usage problems in a separate post. Anyway, most of the INDI drivers from the 3rd party repository are now available. Missing ones are related to unclear license issues and the manufacturer does not care, so, shrug, there are enough alternatives available …

Unfortunately the weather left a lot to be desired, so I couldn’t do any tests.

Other packages I uploaded to Debian were:

  • planetary-system-stacker – software to produce a sharp image of a planetary system object (moon, sun, planets) from many seeing-affected frames using the “lucky imaging” technique
  • astap, astap-cli – astrometric (plate) solver with gui and as cli version
  • openvlbi – this software can be used to join together telescopes as astronomical interferometer
